BUTTON #8

Button #8 investigates how seemingly inconsequential items, like buttons, hold deeper meaning—both as personal relics and as symbols of broader social shifts. In my exploration of the hidden narratives harbored by these inconsequential items, I’ve found a lot of overlap between objects associated with gay flagging and those rooted in patriarchal traditions.

These buttons remind me of how the “sewing circle” evolved from being commonly known as a group of women meeting to talk and sew together to mean a group of women having covert relations with each other during the Hayes Code era of Hollywood.

What began as a subconscious attachment to everyday items evolved into sculptures that explore these unseen threads, creating a sense of connection with those who came before me.
